I found you’re video very enjoyable. I would love to know more about you. How did you really start writing. How especially did you manage to get published. Do you have any suggestions for Unpublished Authors who don’t wish to go with Vanity press in order to start being ‘known’ or out on the market?

      hello jo an,
thank you for such kind words. i love that you love the video–we’ll but putting many more up in weeks to come!
as for your questions…i started writing as a young child. i didn’t have a choice–i absolutely had to write to make sense of the nonsensical. because much going on was confusing to a young kid, i wove the experiences into stories. that is why i encourage writers to stay close to home, write about what concerns you at the deepest level. use your imagination, of course–you’re not a reporter, you’re writing fiction. sometimes the story will take you to surprising places–either locales or more metaphysical places. but just trust your characters, stay focused, and let it all unfold.
one way to become “known” is to write short stories and attempt to get them placed in magazines, including the many on-line publications. i was very lucky. my mother saw how much i loved to write, and she submitted my early work. a poem in The Hartford Courant, a story in American Girl Magazine, and then i was on my own. i bought stamps, manila envelopes, and i never stopped submitting.
i wish you great luck with your own work.
